Yesterday I was invited to the Google Voice service after a long wait in beta.

When a friend of mine and I were kids, we’d take turns playing video games on the computer.  When you were waiting for your turn on the computer, the way to pass time would be to record funny messages on the answering machine that was on the computer desk.  The answering machine ran on big cassette tapes so if you put in a tape that had music on it, there would be music in the background of the messages.  It kind of sounded like the “callers” were calling from a bar…so they all took the theme of drunken, sex-raged callers.

My friend continues the legacy of the messages by leaving me voicemails (high-tech now)…but when I switched to Google Voice, I realized you can embed any voicemail that you get.  A new blog series is born.

Transcript: “yeah hey harold working as you can will i got the spoken for my so call me back i’m also gonna when the book late but it’s”

Ok friends, here’s the new home for the DCC Slide Caption Contest.  Put one comment as your caption.  On posted comments, there are thumbs up/down icons to vote for captions.  You may have to register a username to vote, I’m not sure.  You can use your name, create a fake name, use a Facebook account, a Twitter account or an IntenseDebate account to comment.

Uhh, one vote per person per day please – I think we’ll “all feel comfortable within the confines of the honor system” (thanks Seinfeld).

And begin!

Update: If you comment as a guest, you won’t get a running tally of your overall wins…if you care.

Warning: If you geocache, this post is pretty much a spoiler for Kenmore/Amherst area. Then again, we only found 4 geocaches out of the 8 that we hunted for. The spoilers are still kind of vague – read at your own risk.

Today was my first day geocaching and I had a great time. The start was a little rough. There were two geocaches very close to my house and I decided I’d go it alone before my partner got out of work. I took the dogs over there and I couldn’t find anything…only looking for about 3 minutes. It was the Crosby Field Micro geocache, apparently on a small pine tree – could not find it. I did find a string attached to a small pine tree, maybe it was taken down by a muggle. My partner got out of work and we looked for 10 minutes around those trees and still could not find it. Not a good start. Continue reading »

I suck at social situations, I really do.  I don’t know why I try or even get myself into these situations.

I went to Allegheny last weekend to get information from park police and to do some hiking, as my friend and I have a goal to hike every trail before the winter hits (or maybe it was ‘before we die’)…and noticed a few days before the weekend that a girl we know will be up there with her boyfriend the same weekend.  I thought “great, we’ll knock off another trail and visit them for a little while….catch up with the times” Continue reading »

I have to point out something that I tweeted at the beginning of day 4.  “RT @okg8tr: Just saw blind girl walking around alone w/guide dog. What a totally different experience Bonnaroo must be for her than rest …” That is flipping awesome.  After it was all said and done, that blind girl probably spent $500 to come to Bonnaroo just to hear the music.  The other part of the fun is people watching, but people listening must be even better when you can focus on conversations.  It’s just incredible that that girl came.
